The Lab
The heart of GrindLab: analyzing a hand street by street, from preflop to river, against the range you assign to the villain.
The Lab is GrindLab's central tool. You feed it a hand, a board and an opponent range, and it tells you what you should do.
What the Lab computes
The engine runs a Monte Carlo simulation: GrindLab plays out thousands of random runouts of your hand against the range you assigned to the villain, then counts wins, ties and losses.
That gives you four numbers that matter:
- Your equity: your probability of winning at showdown against that range
- Pot odds: the minimum equity you need for a call to be profitable
- MDF (Minimum Defense Frequency): how often you must defend to stop the villain from profiting with any two cards
- Equity vs callers: your equity against only the part of the villain's range that would call your raise
Then a verdict, in one line: "18.6% equity vs 13.0% needed. Calling is profitable."

One limitation worth knowing
The analysis is only as good as the range you assign. That is the part most players underestimate.
Give the villain a range that is too tight and you will overestimate your equity, then fold profitable spots. Too wide, and you will call losing spots believing you are right. The engine is exact; the input assumption is you.
That is why the chapter on the villain's range deserves more attention than the calculation itself.
The four sub-chapters
- Analyze a hand: the full walkthrough, from hole cards to verdict
- The villain's range: the 13×13 matrix, the composition bar, smart filters
- Hand import: paste a hand history and let GrindLab fill everything in
- The replayer: replay the hand street by street and attach your notes to it
Supported formats
The Lab works for any Texas Hold'em format: cash game, MTT, Sit & Go, Spin & Go. Tournament specifics (ICM, PKO bounties) are taken into account where they change the decision.
